Mashami named interim Junior Wasps head coach

Bugesera FC head coach Vincent Mashami will take charge of the Junior Wasps on a temporary basis ahead of the inaugural edition of the Morocco U20 Partners tournament slated for November 9-13 in Rabat. The youngsters have since started preparations.

The former Amavubi assistant head coach will be assisted by Isonga head coach Musa Gatera and APR goalkeeping coach Ibrahim Mugisha, while the local football governing body, FERWAFA, also appointed Emery Kamanzi and Patrick Rutamu as the team manager and doctor, respectively.

The Junior Wasps started training on Tuesday in Shyorongi ahead of the inaugural edition of the Morocco U20 Partners tournament.

Mashami summoned a 26-man squad on Monday before they went into camp at Hotel Dian Fossey in Shyorongi.

Morocco U20 Partners tournament is designed to give a platform to youngsters from Morocco FA partner federations to display their skills and indeed Rwanda’s involvement is under a youth development partnership programme that exists between the two countries’ football federations.

The Junior Wasps were set to hold a training session on Tuesday afternoon and then two sessions on Wednesday before players could be allowed to return to their respective clubs on Thursday ahead of weekend’s league matches.

The final 20-man team will link up on Monday and depart to Morocco later on the same day.

Meanwhile, the Junior Wasps are also set to compete in the 2016 Cosafa Under-20 Championships which will be staged in Rustenburg, South Africa from December 7-16.

The COSAFA U20 tournament will feature 14 sides, with Rwanda taking up the position of Madagascar, which will not participate.

The Junior Wasps will be participating in the Southern Africa youth showpiece, set for December 7-16, for the first time.
