On-form Sunrise FC will be aiming to climb top of the national football league table when they host struggling Marines FC on Sunday at Nyagatare ground.

The Nyagatare-based side has made a bright start to the 2016/17 season with a 100% record from the first two matches, against AS Kigali and newly promoted Kirehe FC, keeping clean sheets after winning both games 1-0.

Meanwhile, FERWAFA has approved Nyagatare and Nyagisenyi grounds to host league matches. The decision was taken after the adhoc committee in charge of approving match venues visited Gicumbi, Nyagatare and Nyagisenyi venues this week.

The committee, led by FERWAFA Executive Committee member Albert Kayiranga, visited Gicumbi Stadium and Nyagisenyi stadium on Wednesday before visiting Nyagatare stadium.

The match between Amagaju FC and Police, which was initially set to be played at Huye Stadium, will be staged at Nyagisenyi ground on Sunday.

Andrew Ibeh’s Sunrise FC are in second position with six points, level with leaders Etincelles FC, who entertain Musanze FC at Umuganda Stadium.

On the other hand, Marines have managed to collect only one point out of six having been held to a goalless draw by Espoir in the opening game before suffering a 3-0 defeat to AS Kigali last weekend.

"We are delighted with the manner in which we have started the season, which puts us in a good position going into the next game against Marines,” Sunrise FC head coach Andrew Ibeh, told Saturday Sport.

The Nigerian tactician, who joined the Eastern Province side early September, added that, "It’s going to be a tough game but we’re perfectly ready, the players are pushing higher and improving day by day.”

Ibeh said he has no injury worries and hoped to field the same team that had played so well in the opening two fixtures. A win today would see Sunrise leapfrog Etincelles at the top of the table.

Strikers Cyprian Sinamenya and Hoze Irabivuze, scorers in the first two games against AS Kigali and Kirehe, are both expected to start today’s match as Sunrise, bid to make it three wins out of three.

Elsewhere, Vincent Mashami’s Bugesera FC, who stunned SC Kiyovu with a 3-0 victory on the opening day before losing 2-1 against Police, will host Espoir FC at Nyamata ground, whereas SC Kiyovu will entertain Gicumbi at Mumena Stadium.

Newly promoted Pepineire FC, without a point so far, will take on seventh-placed Kirehe FC at Ruyenzi ground.

On Sunday, third-placed Rayon Sports will host Eric Nshimiyimana’s AS Kigali, who are in sixth place, at Kigali Regional Stadium.
