Challengers have won this tournament twice since it was introduced in 2013.

Evode Mutuyimana was relentless for Challengers as they hammered Indorwa Cricket Club on Sunday in the ongoing UAE Exchange Premier League at Kicukiro cricket ground.

Mutuyimana singlehandedly made 45 runs in 39 balls, helping his side to a big margin of 111 runs. On their way to victory, Challengers won the toss and batted first making 185 runs in 34.4 over’s.

Evode Mutuyimana and Subhasis Samal both made 78 runs which helped their team to a comfortable win. In the second Innings, Indorwa tried to chase the target set by Challengers but only managed to make 75 runs in 18.1 overs.

Indorwa’s Dhaval Patel was his team’s star player with 14 runs off 14 balls but this was not enough to challenge the target set by Challengers. Bob Songa, who is round batsman, said the team is ready to do whatever possible to defend their title.

"We have many games ahead of us, we need to remain focused, all the teams have improved and are all capable of winning it, so we have to really be careful and work hard,” he said.

Mutuyimana, arguably the most outstanding player in the game, attributed his performance to the solidarity and the great winning mentality among all Challengers players.

"We play with passion and enthusiasm, we really love the game and are always happy when we play according to our game plan,” said Mutuyimana.

Challengers have won this tournament twice since it was introduced in 2013 and will be looking to retain it.
