Urban Boys

Is Urban Boyz having an album launch tour?

After holding several concerts across the country as part of the celebration of their Primus Guma Guma Super Star 6 win, the group returned to Kigali with a series of shows, starting with Superstar Night that took place at Nyabugogo-based night club, Top Chef.

The trio, Safi Madiba, Nizzo Kaboss and Humble Jizzo, are now onto a new project, a show dubbed Adam & Eve, which is a promotion of their album of the same name.

The event will take place at People’s Club in Kacyiru and will feature rapper Riderman, DJ Pius, and Charly & Nina. They will later take the show to Huye. We will keep you posted.

Are Rwandan artistes in contest?

Charlie & Nina
Allioni

If there’s one thing that is not common in Rwanda, it is more than five artistes releasing songs in the same week. It looks like local artistes are in competition, given the rate in which they are churning out song after song in the same period of time.

Bruce Melodie released his solo dubbed Complete Me, Primus Guma Guma Super Star 6 participant Allioni released Amahirwe, Jody Phibi released Madina, rising star Yvan Buravan gave his fans a ‘Kizomba’ style track named Just a Dance, Social Mula came with Amahitamo, and Charly&Nina collaborated with Ugandan singer/songwriter Geosteady in Owooma.

All this comes after Rwandan US-based artiste Meddy announced a collabo with Kenya’s popular four-man band Sauti Sol, and DJ Pius’s track with Good Lyfe Crew’s Radio and Weasel of Uganda.

Maybe this is what has been lacking in the industry – competition! Our snoops tell us that word going around is that competition might be good for them, it will hopefully push them harder with the aim to create even better work. Will this continue? We will keep you posted.

All roads lead to the Himbaza Gospel Festival in December

Gospel music is slowly but surely gaining a strong following in the region. Whereas secular music seems to be first in line, many gospel artistes have staged successful shows within and outside the country, proving that it is a force to reckon with.

In this light, according to our sources, a team of gospel music enthusiasts has decided to organise what is expected to be one of the biggest gospel music festivals in the country. Slated for December 4 at Petit Stade, Remera, the event, dubbed ‘Himbaza Gospel Festival’, will attract several gospel singers from across the country.

Word going round is that sponsors and other stakeholders are certain this will be a great concert, and hopefully, a chance to pull more people towards gospel music. The list of performers is yet to be released.

Jalamo to perform in Kigali

Jalamo

Kenyan Ohangla sensation Emma Jalamo will grace the highly anticipated Mashujaa Day event in Kigali this evening. Jalamo is popular for Ohangla, a traditional music genre in the Luo community in Kenya that’s often used at weddings.

Mashujaa Day, also known as Heroes Day, is a Kenyan national day observed every year on October 20, to collectively honour all those who contributed towards the struggle for Kenya’s independence or positively contributed in the post independence Kenya.

Jalamo is known for songs like Jaraha, First Lady 2, Osiepe, Okinyo Mama, and Auma Lady, to name a few.

The event is expected to bring together members of the Kenyan community living in Rwanda and it will take place at Roba’s Hub Hotel in Kimironko.
