The Turkish ambassador to Rwanda has paid courtesy call on Senate president Bernard Makuza, pledging to work towards propelling further the good relations the two countries already enjoy.

Speaking to the media after the courtesy call, yesterday, Ambassador Mehmet Raif Karaca, whose office was established in Rwanda in 2015, commended the rapidly expanding cooperation the two countries have enjoyed over the past few years.

He said Turkish relations with Rwanda cover many areas including diplomacy, politics, economy, and culture, among others.

"Earlier this year, the Turkish parliament formed the Turkey-Rwanda parliament friendship group; I have come here to inform the Senate president about it, and to find out ways and means on how to promote further cooperation between the two parliaments,” he said.

Amb. Karaca further stressed that after completion of the Kigali Convention Centre, many more projects are in the pipeline adding that that was the beginning of serious business between the two countries.

"Many other projects are in the pipeline, some of them will be construction projects that we are contemplating alongside other forms of cooperation expected in the science industries and agriculture,” he added.

Makuza said the two countries, through parliamentary diplomacy, are aiming higher for mutual benefits.

"Rwanda’s vision to promote export and industrial production will no doubt be attained and countries such as Turkey which have advanced industrial sectors can be good partners,” Makuza said.

Rwanda and Turky early this year signed a raft of agreements on cooperation in different fields, including education and mutual abolition of visas for holders of diplomatic passports, among others.
