Rwanda will compete at this year’s World Taekwondo Federation (WTF) Junior Championship scheduled for November 16-20 in Burnaby City of British Columbia, Canada. It will be Rwanda’s first appearance in the biennial tournament.

The international event attracts all member national associations and serves as an opportunity for U-18 sides to display their skills, as well as provide an occasion for participating youths to create friendship with peers from around the world.

Rwanda will be represented by a team of three — two boys and one girl. The team is currently undergoing daily training at Amahoro Indoor Stadium under the watchful eye of national team head coach Allan Irene Bagire.

The three players that will carry Rwanda’s flag include Vincent Munyakazi, 17 (U-63kgs category); Benon Kayitare, 17 (U-51kgs) and Laisa Umurerwa, 16, who will compete in the U-49kgs category.

"It’s a great achievement for our sport to compete in this event. Our players do not have a lot of international experience; however, we have started preparations early and, hopefully, we will win a medal,” Bagire told Times Sport.
