After guiding the Kibungo University (UNIK) to the second national volleyball league title last season, Ugandan right-attack Daudi Okello has joined Bulgaria side Marek Union Ivkoni on a one year contract.

The 21-year-old joined Marek Union Ivkom at the beginning of October as free agent after his contract with UNIK expired at the end of last season.

Speaking to Sunday Sport yesterday, UNIK head coach Dominique Ntawangundi confirmed the transfer, saying that Okello is joining one of the biggest volleyball clubs in Bulgaria that also play in the European Championship.

"He will be an important player for Marek Union Ivkom as he has the skills to be a top high player. He is a great addition for them given his experience and his ability,” said Ntawangundi.

Ntawangundi, who has been closely following Okello’s transfer wish, said that Ugandan international successfully passed his tests before the move was completed this early this week.

The youngster signed for UNIK from KAVC at the start of last season, and was a target of a number of local and foreign clubs after his impressive performance as the Ngoma-based club won the national league, KAVC Memorial, Genocide Memorial and Carre d’As tournaments.

VC Marek Union-Ivkoni is a professional volleyball team, based in Dupnitsa. VC Marek Union-Ivkoni plays in the Bulgarian League, Bulgarian Cup and the European Champions League.
