Mashami eyes Kiyovu scalp in league opener

Bugesera FC head coach Vincent Mashami is optimistic that his team will defeat SC Kiyovu in their opening game of the season, scheduled for today at Nyamata ground in Bugesera District, Eastern Province.

Bugesera FC head coach Vincent Mashami is optimistic that his team will defeat SC Kiyovu in their opening game of the season, scheduled for today at Nyamata ground in Bugesera District, Eastern Province.

But, Mashami knows that the match, especially being their first of the campaign, will be tight. "Everyone will come for a win and we know it is going to be a tough game, but we will go to the field with purpose of winning in-front of our home fans.”

"SC Kiyovu is a strong side but we have to be ready for the match and if you play well, the results will be easy to come and I believe we can do both, play well and get a good result,” added the former Amavubi assistant coach.

He further noted, "We have to win this game but we have to perform better than we have probably done in pre-season, we have worked really hard and I believe we have a chance of winning the game.”

His counterpart, Alloys Kanamugire says that his side will be looking for win in Bugesera, "We have had good preparations, and the players know that they must show what we are capable of doing to win this game.”

In other matches, newly promoted Pepiniere FC will face Mukura Victory Sports at Ruyenzi ground; Etincelles FC host Gicumbi FC at Umuganda Stadium in Rubavu.

Action will continue on Sunday when the champions APR FC start their title defence against Amagaju FC at Kigali Regional Stadium, kick off at 3:30pm.

Marines FC will be at home against Espoir FC at Umuganda Stadium, Sunrise FC will face AS Kigali at Kicukiro Stadium while another newly promoted side, Kirehe FC will meet Musanze FC at Kirehe grounds.

Meanwhile, FERWAFA has given Sunrise FC, Amagaju FC and Gicumbi FC ten days to work on their home grounds so that they can host the next matches.

The affected grounds include; Nyagatare turf in Eastern Province, Gicumbi ground in the Northern Province and Nyamabage-based Nyagisenyi ground in Southern Province.

Until the three grounds are improved, FERWAFA has recommended Amagaju to use Huye Stadium, normally used by Mukura or Kamena turf while Sunrise FC will use Kicukiro Stadium and Gicumbi have been advised to play their matches either at Mumena or Kigali Regional Stadium.
