APR handball club have vowed to revenge against archrivals Police in the Carre d’As tournament set for this Saturday. This follows their final league day disappointment after losing the title to Police for the third consecutive time.

Police were crowned the champions of the 2016 National Handball League despite drawing 31-31 against APR in the final match of the season played on Sunday at Kimisagara Youth Centre to wrap up their fifth league title.

APR which last won the title in 2009 has vowed to end the law enforcers’ dominance this season that has seen them clinch the league title three seasons in a row.

In an interview with Times Sport, APR head coach Anaclet Bagirishya who strongly condemned the handball federation for selecting referees whose decisions he says were against his side revealed that his side must revenge against Police this Saturday by winning the Carre d’ As tourney.

"It is unfortunate that we lost the league title when we perfectly deserved it but that’s part of the game and we are not discouraged, we still have tournaments like Carre d’As and beach Volleyball that I hope will give us an opportunity to revenge on them,” said Bagirishya

The annual two-day tournament brings together the top four teams in the national league in a round robin format play.

They include Champions Police 47pts, runners up APR 45pts, third place Ecole Secondaire Kigoma with 32 points and College Inyeramihigo with 28 points.
