During the show’s one year anniversary, they decided to move to a much bigger venue at Mundi Center. It didn’t take long for the audience to occupy the whole space, requiring the comedy to shift a bigger venue, making KCEV their new home in September.

" It was all by God’s grace but the consistency and good content of Gen Z was a pillar to the success of the show. During Covid I had the idea of Gen Z comedy show given that the shows were very few,” he said.

He further added that even though the idea of it was scary he dared to dream and never looked back. He started with six young new comedians whom he trained for a few days with a concept of developing new talents.

He urged Rwandans to support the comedy scene especially intellectually as the industry continues to evolve.

" I owe Rwandans so much for the support and love they keep showering us with. I dream for Gen Z to be a national event that will be held in different parts of the country,” he added.

During the last show of the year held on Thursday, December 28, comedians Clement, Rumi, Muhinde, Kadudu, Isekere and Bareth among others had the audience laughing with their humorous jokes.

Comedian Isekere, among the best performers of the night, joked about how fashionista Franco’s bald head is not really bald, however he burnt his head while carrying a hot pot on his head.

During the ‘Meet me tonight’ segment, rapper Bushali entertained the happy audience while throwing in some jokes.

He joked about how he was in a choir at ADEPR when he was still young like other musicians, and the audience burst out laughing in disbelief.

The show ended at around 10:50 PM while the audience was still yearning for more. Merci then announced that the next one will be held on January 11.

Organised by Rwandan funnyman Merci Ndaruhutse, commonly known as Fally Merci, Gen Z Comedy Show aims at promoting young upcoming comedians in the country to give them a platform to showcase their talent as one of the factors impeding the development of upcoming comedians. He is using the Gen Z concept to unearth new talents and give them an opportunity to thrive.
