R&B singer Christopher Muneza has pulled out of the 2016 Salax Awards competition just a few months to the annual red carpet event.

The 22-year-old singer who was nominated in the categories of Best R&B/Pop Artist and Best Male Artist told The New Times that his decision to pull out of the competition was due to the limited time he had for his commitments and the Salax Awards was not on the top list of his priorities.

"I’m recording two albums, soon I’m going to Europe for a festival and I’m also in my final year at school. I have so many commitments to make and the Salax Awards will be difficult for me to follow up. I give everything I’m involved in too much attention but I had to give this up and I’m not regretting it,” he said.

Christopher came into the limelight with his breakthrough track, Habona in 2014 followed by hits like Ishema, Sigaho, Amaitamo, Iri Joro, Habona, Babyumva, among many others.

The Salax Awards are organised by the Ikirezi Group, with the purpose of supporting local artistes and promoting the local entertainment industry. This year’s edition is due to take place on December 23 in Kigali.
