It was a somber mood on Monday in Kabarore Town, Gatsibo District following the news of the death of Gaudence Uwihoreye a mother of two.

In an interview, police spokesperson Eastern Region, Inspector of Police Emmanuel Kayigi, confirmed the incident and said investigations were still on to ascertain circumstances under which the deceased met her death.

"The body has been taken to Kiziguro Hospital for postmortem and we have not received the results as to what caused the death. But from the manner in which the victim was found, it is most likely a homicide because she was found tied up in the bathroom with a rope around her neck,” Kayigi said.

He added that preliminary investigations indicate that a houseboy employed by the family, who has only been identified as Mutabazi, could have been responsible for the murder.

Mutabazi has since gone missing and suspected to have made off with household items and money from the family's shop.

On Monday morning,Vedaste Nsanzimfura left his wife at home and went to their distant farm and on returning, he was informed by the couple's four-year son that something wrong had happened to his mother.

The houseboy, who was still around quickly told him that she had collapsed and had been rushed to a nearby health centre.

Nsanzimfura rushed to the health centre only to find she was not there and decided to return home.

When he got home, he found the houseboy had disappeared and that the home and the retail shop the family retail shop had been ransacked.
He later discovered his wife's body in the bathroom.

Unfortunately, the suspect's details remains scanty, as no one in the neighbourhood seem to know much about him, including his place of birth.

Police called upon employers to always endeavor to have particulars of the people they employ.
