Rwanda’s High Commissioner to Uganda Frank Mugambage on Wednesday presented his credentials South Sudan President Salva Kirr.

Mugambage now doubles as Rwanda’s Ambassador to South Sudan resident in Kampala. The High Commissioner was accompanied by Lt. Col. James Burabyo, the Military attaché at the Rwanda High Commission in Kampala.

In a statement released by the Rwanda High Commission in Uganda, Mugambage conveyed warm greetings from President Paul Kagame to his South Sudan counterpart.

"He reiterated his commitment to promote bilateral relationship between two brotherly countries. H.E Frank Mugambage assured the President who was flanked by several government officials that included the Minister of Interior and Under Secretary in Ministry of foreign affairs that he was aware of several regional engagements that Republic of Rwanda and South Sudan are fully committed to, and pledged his total stake as Rwanda’s Ambassador to South Sudan,” the statement reads in part.

On his part President Salva Kiir welcomed the High Commissioner to South Sudan, describing the country as Ambassador Mugambage’s second home and underscored that Rwanda has been supportive and brotherly to South Sudan.

"Commending Rwanda’s leadership, the President appreciated how Rwanda has increasingly become peaceful, progressive and exemplary despite the turbulent past and was convinced that sooner than later South Sudan would emulate Rwanda,” the statement adds.

The President commended Rwanda Defence Force peacekeepers working under the United Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for doing their work so well, and wished the Ambassador all the best in his new assignment.

Mugambage meets Rwandan community in South Sudan

On the first day of his tour of duty in Juba, Mugambage met a cross section of Rwandan community living in Juba that expressed relief and happiness to have him as Rwanda’s ambassador to South Sudan.

They cited several challenges they are facing in South Sudan.

Mugambage urged them to remain good ambassadors of the country despite the challenges.

He later met members of the Rwanda Defence Force and Rwanda National Police officers working under United Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS ) and  reminded them to keep the spirit  and promote core values that characterise Rwanda’s armed forces which include patriotism, commitment, skill enrichment through training and discipline.

Mugambage also held a meeting with Ambassadors from IGAD countries which was organised by Dean of Diplomatic corps, as part of orientation, he was briefed on general situation in South Sudan.
