Since stepping down in 2007 as Britain’s Prime-Minister, Tony Blair, is a man on a mission. In the Middle-East and in Rwanda.

Blair’s diplomatic work has included representing the Middle East diplomatic Quartet, made up of the European Union, Russia, the United Nations and the United States.

He comes to Rwanda this week after having been in Israel, where he was engaged in peace talks.

A close friend of Rwanda, Blair volunteered his experience in national and global leadership, to be advisor to President Paul Kagame. 

Expertise he is putting to use on his current visit to the country.

His message to the country’s leadership has been on how they can achieve their vision, for the fast developing country.

According to Blair, having a vision is one thing making it happen is another ‘hard thing.’ 

Blair’s main area of interest is in helping rebuild the country’s economy especially in attracting private investment.

In this regard, in his advice to top government officials at Urugwiro Village, he emphasised the need for the country to build its capacity to sustain itself.

His vision being one of a Rwanda, that will eventually unshackle itself from donor dependency.

The former Premier had no words to mince on the DR Congo crisis.

For him the solution is very simple, all armed groups in the Eastern Congo, should disband.

Today Blair is expected to meet with President Kagame, in another exchange of views on how Rwanda, can continue on her path of peace and prosperity.
