Habiyambere faces Kibet in Rwanda Tennis Open 2nd round

Rwanda’s Dieudonne Habiyambere and Kenya’s Ibrahim Kibet face-off today in the second round of the Rwanda Tennis Open taking place at Amahoro National Stadium tennis courts.

Habiyambere, Rwanda’s number three faces a tough challenge from Kenya’s seed two Kibet at 10:30am on court two in the first ever meeting between the two players, with each vying for a slot in tomorrow’s quarter-finals.

"He is a tough player and I am very aware of his potential but my focus to win, not only today’s match but the whole tournament, and I am very confident about my chances of going all the way,” said Habiyambere.

In the first round on Tuesday, Habiyambere beat compatriot Etienne Harerimana in straight set 6-3, 6-2 while Kibet defeated Burundian Issa Cyuma in three sets 3-6, 6-3 and 7-5.

In other second round matches, Rwanda’s number one Ernest Habiyambere will face Mussa Hakizimana from Burundi while second seed Olivier Havugimana will be up against Burundi’s Radjabu Ntamba at 1pm, on court one.

Uganda’s top seed Duncan Mugabe face-off Rwanda’s Robert Ndagijimana at 10am on court one while David Oringa from Uganda meets Burundian Saidi Nkurunziza at 1pm on court 3.

Meanwhile, the women’s singles heads to the quarter-finals where Rwanda’s Gisele Umumarungu will be up against Kenya’s Shufa Changawa at 2pm on court one, while top seed Meganne Ingabire will be locking horns with Evelyne Kwizera on court 3.
