Last season’s league champions, APR FC, bagged Rwf10m.
According to Rwanda Football Federation (FERWAFA), the increase in prize money is aimed at giving more value to the league and to motivate clubs to stage more competitive performances.
Each team in the top four will get Rwf2m and those that finish in the top eight will each receive Rwf2m. All the 16 teams competing in the league will also each get facilitation of Rwf10m for the entire season courtesy of league sponsors, Azam Rwanda.
This was revealed during the FERWAFA extraordinary assembly held from September 17-18 at La Palme Hotel in Musanze District.
During the same meeting, the national league kickoff was pushed to October 14. The league was initially planned to start around mid September.
Meanwhile the Peace Cup winners will earn Rwf10m and the first runners-up Rwf3m. The third place position will attract Rwf2m while the team that finishes in fourth position will pocket Rwf1m. The Peace Cup Tournament will be played over two legs at each qualification category to help upcoming players in second division league clubs gain enough exposure when they face first division clubs.
The Extra Ordinary General Assembly also approved an adhoc committee to asses match venues for the upcoming season.
The adhoc committee will also update the fixtures for the next season based on the recommended match venues.
The meeting also approved the appointment of Latifah Tharcille Uwamahoro as the new FERWAFA Secretary General replacing Olivier Mulindahabi.
Meanwhile, FERWAFA also confirmed signing of football development partnerships with Gabon and Angola football associations. The partnership is aimed at ensuring football development in both Youth and Women categories.
The local football governing body already has a development partnership with their Morocco counterparts aimed at boosting technical development.
