Rwanda’s Hermas Muvunyi has qualified for the final of the Men’s 400m T45/46/47 category at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. The finals will take place on Saturday night at Olympic stadium in Fort Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Rwanda’s Hermas Muvunyi has qualified for the final of the Men’s 400m T45/46/47 category at the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games. The finals will take place on Saturday night at Olympic stadium in Fort Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Muvunyi, 27, who competed in heat one, finished second clocking 49:99; his best for the season and just nine microseconds behind Austrian Gunther Matzinger, who posted 49:90.

Matzinger won the gold medal in the 400 metres at the 2012 London Paralympic Games with 48:45 and Muvunyi, who was making his debut then, finished fifth after clocking 49:49.

Brazilian Ferreira Dos Santos Petrucio won heat two, posting 49:96 and was followed by Jean Luc Kouame Noumbo, from Ivory Coast, in a time of 50:14.

Jamaican Shane Hudson and Ernesto Blanco, from Cuba, qualified from heat three; both posting the best times compared to the other athletes from the other two heats. Hudson used 49 seconds and 53 microseconds, while Blanco used 49 seconds and 68 microseconds.

Meanwhile, Muvunyi was last night due to compete in the Men’s 1500m final at 11:20pm Rwandan time.
