A one-all draw with Ghana during the African Cup of Nations qualifiers early this month in Accra, has culminated in Rwanda climbing 14 places in the latest FIFA ranking released on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland.

Rwanda jumped from 121 last month to 107 and is placed 31st on the African continent, while Uganda remains the best-placed country in the East Africa region despite remaining unmoved at 65th position globally.

The Cranes qualified for the 2017 AFCON finals after 38 years when they defeated Comoros 1-0 at home earlier this month. Elsewhere, Ethiopia ranked 126th globally, Burundi 129th, Tanzania (132nd), Sudan 135th, and South Sudan 167th.

On the continental level, Ivory Coast leapfrogged Algeria as Africa’s top team, and 34 in the world, followed by Algeria (35th) and Senegal (39th).

Argentina and Belgium remain in first and second place globally, respectively, cementing their positions at the summit of the world ranking for another month.

Elsewhere in the top five, Germany (3, up 1) and Colombia (4, down 1) traded places while a rejuvenated Brazil, moved into joint fourth place thanks largely due to victories against Colombia and Ecuador in World Cup qualifiers.
