She-Amavubi has been eliminated from the ongoing CECAFA Women Championship after losing to Ethiopia 3-2 in the final Group B match played on Wednesday in Njeru, Buikwe District in Eastern Uganda.

Losa Abera gave Ethiopia an early lead in the third minute but Dorothee Mukeshimana equalized for Rwanda in the 45thminute from a direct corner-kick.

After the half time break, Rwanda continued to pile pressure on Ethiopia, dominating possession and creating chances upfront but failed to find the back of the net.

In the 62nd minute, Abera made it 2-1 for Ethiopia. But within just eight minutes, Rwandan captain Sifa Gloria Nibagwire equalized though the celebration was short-lived as Meskerem Kanko secured all three points for Ethiopia ten minutes to the final whistle.

The loss was the second for She-Amavubi, after losing to Tanzania 3-2 in the first match on Monday. She-Amavubi are expected back home on Friday.

Ethiopia will progress to the semi-finals along with Tanzania.

Meanwhile, hosts Uganda kept the dream of playing the knock out stages after trashing Zanzibar 9-0 while Kenya booked a place in the last four after drubbing Burundi 4-0 in the second match of Group A on Tuesday.

The CECAFA Women Championship returns after a 30-year absence.  The last CECAFA women football championship was held in Zanzibar and was won by the hosts in 1986.
