Chokers; they are currently trending on social media and celebrities are posting picture after picture wearing them. From reality star Kim Kardashian to music sensation Rihanna, the choker is proving to be a must-have accessory.

Now worn in favour of the necklace, the choker comes in many styles, anything from denim to velvet to Masai beads. They make the neck look longer and of course accentuate your sense of fashion.

How to wear them

According to Abhilasha Kailash, the proprietor Beauty Shop, a local jewellery store, there are many ways to rock a choker, regardless of the occasion.

"They can go with almost everything; their versatility makes it easy to use them as accessories for any outfit. For a really hip look, wear one with a cropped or off-the-shoulder top, this will ensure that all the attention goes to your neck. Also, colours like gold, silver or grey will make you stand out,” she says.

If you’re not into overly noticeable jewellery, then a plain black choker will do. They’re probably the trending most right now. It’s best to have one, just in case you are not in the mood to make a bold statement.

"With a simple top, one can still layer the choker necklace with other thin long necklaces; this actually looks stunning, especially if you are attending a casual event. Don’t be afraid to mix them up.

"For a fancy night out, one can match the choker necklace with the top, shoes or handbag, like similar colours. Opting for a v-shaped top with a coloured choker necklace will accentuate your features,” says Kailash.
