The CECAFA secretary general Nicholas Musonye has said that Kenya will host to the 2016 CECAFA Kagame Cup and Senior Challenge Cup.

Musonye confirmed that Nairobi replaced Dar as hosts of the upcoming regional club championships in December, with the Senior Challenge Cup due in November.

Confirming Kenya as the hosts of both tournaments last week, Musonye said: "Kenya will host both tournaments and we hope we will have a good championship in Kenya this year contrary to what we experienced in 2013 when they had shambolic preparations”.

The official also said the host nation will be represented by Kenyan Premier League (KPL) defending champions and last year’s finalists  Gor Mahia, as well as Ulinzi Stars, and there is an opening for a third team should there be  interest.

Rwanda league champions APR FC will represent the country, while Tanzanian side Azam FC – the defending champions – will also feature.

Uganda are the defending Senior Challenge Cup champions.

Meanwhile, Munsonye revealed that the next editions of the Women and Youth competitions will go on as planned starting next year after the world football governing body, FIFA, pledged to sponsor the tournaments.
