Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) president Charles Haba has urged the U-19 boys national cricket team to be good ambassadors at the upcoming ICC Division Two World Cup qualifier in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The long-serving RCA boss made the remarks on Wednesday evening at Accord Hotel in Kimihurura where he was briefing the team before it departed for South Africa – the tournament is scheduled for September 10 -18.

"One way you can express your patriotism to your country is to keep its flag high by performing well in any competition that you take part in as sportsmen,” said Haba.

On behalf of RCA, Haba promised the team Rwf300,000 bonus if they win the 50-overs tournament Rwf200,000 for second place while the most outstanding performer will also be rewarded.

In addition to Rwanda, other teams in the week-long tournament include; Botswana, Ghana, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Zambia that will play against each other on round Robin basis.

The winner will qualify to compete in the International Cricket Council Division One U-19 World Cup qualifier that will take place in February 2017 in South Africa.

Rwanda has been an active member in this tournament for the last five years having made their maiden appearance in 2009. "We are out to win and qualify for the first division,” said the national team head coach Davis Turinawe.

Team captain John Bosco Tuyizere said the players are well prepared and their aim is to win the qualification spot.
