Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair, who earlier this year took up an unpaid advisory position with the government, is expected to fly in today.

On his arrival, Blair is expected to hold closed bilateral discussions with the head of government, Prime Minister Bernard Makuza at the latter’s offices in Kimihurura.

Ever since he volunteered as an advisor to President Kagame, Blair has put rebuilding the country’s economy, especially in attracting private investment, high on his list.

During his first visit early this year, Blair stressed his willingness and commitment to Rwanda’s clear development vision, and referred to any help that he could give as a privilege.

"I think the fascinating thing about Rwanda is that it’s a country that has gone through a terrible and traumatic experience, but has rebuilt itself,” he was quoted as saying.

Blair is later expected to meet some key ministers, especially those in charge of finance, commerce, infrastructure and agriculture to discuss private sector investment issues.

According to a tentative programme of his visit, Blair will Thursday tour several projects around the country, including the nascent methane gas project, the solar array and the national fibre optic rollout.

The former premier will then hold a joint press briefing with President Paul Kagame.
