Police in Ngororero are holding four officials suspected of flouting procedures in awarding a tender for road construction in the district.

The suspects were arrested on separate occasions this week, according to Police.

Speaking to Saturday Times, yesterday, Theobald Kanamugire, the Western Province Police spokesperson, said the officials are suspected of conniving to offer favours to the contractor.

He said three of the suspects are being held at Ngororero Police Station, while the other was arrested in Kigali.

The suspects include the district executive secretary and his personal secretary, district procurement officer, and infrastructure officer.

"They are collectively accused of breaching tender procedures for road construction,” Kanamugire said, adding that investigations were still ongoing.

Issues related to illegal tender and procurement have been raised in various public institutions leading to misappropriation of public funds or other illegalities.

"Public servants, especially, should abide by laws whenever there are issues involving public funds to ensure they are not involved in mismanagement or misuse of public funds,” said Kanamugire.
