Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup set for September 10

The 4th edition of the annual Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup Championship will be staged on September 10-11 at Amahoro Indoor Stadium in Remera, according to organizers, the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation.

The 4th edition of the annual Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup Championship will be staged on September 10-11 at Amahoro Indoor Stadium in Remera, according to organizers, the Rwanda Taekwondo Federation.

RTF secretary general Placide Bagabo said, "Our target is to always improve the level and quality of the competition, we want this year’s tourney to be more competitive and better organized than previous editions.”

He also confirmed that the Rwandan team has started intensive preparations, "Some Ugandan and Kenyan fighters have already registered. We also expect a few participants from outside of the East African region.”

The hosts have dominated the past three editions, making Rwanda the taekwondo powerhouse in the East and Central Africa and one of the sub-Sahara Africa’s best. Rwanda ranks sixth in Africa and in top 40 globally.

According to Bagabo, best performers from Ambassador’s Cup and the national championship slated for October, will have a chance of representing the country in international competitions including; the WTF World Championship next year.

Taekwondo Ambassador’s Cup is sponsored by the Republic of Korea embassy to Rwanda.
