Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) is set to organise the U17 women tournament this October.

The two month long competition will start at district level before going into the National level. Players to represent the country in next year’s AFCON qualifiers will be selected in this tournament.

"We are trying to look for potential from every corner of the country"  Felicitee Rwemalika, FERWAFA Executive Committee officer in charge of Women Football  said at last week.

"The tournament will help us to find many young talented players who we hope will play for the national team in future. We want to build the strong foundation for the women side” she added.

The participants will be taught various aspects of football development, and the programme  targets 300 participants between the ages of 6 and 12.

The tournament under the ‘Live Your Goals’ concept, hatched on the sidelines of the 2011 World Cup in Germany, is a global initiative that inspires girls and young women to achieve their goals in football through perseverance, fair play and teamwork, all while making new friends.

FIFA provides support to member associations implementing the campaign and festivals in order to help in branding, communications, concept development and financial assistance.

The concept is a four-year legacy programme fully supported by FIFA for two years with member federations partly sponsoring the initiative for the subsequent two years.

Live Your Goals is FIFA’s dedicated development campaign aimed at inspiring girls and young women to get involved in soccer and stay in the game.
