Standing for Rwanda’s ‘hero’ Rose Kabuye

Yesterday, Rwandan’s from all walks of life in their thousands protested in front of the German embassy, against the unfair arrest of the Director of State Protocol, Rose Kabuye, in Germany on Sunday. The message at the German embassy, was that this is not about Kabuye alone, she merely symbolises a country’s heroic struggle, against the odds. The afternoon showers did not stop the vibrating energy of defiance, as the people, challenged the very basis, upon which their liberator had been arrested. Africa’s tragicomedy, contradictions galore; that the one who has suffered the pain, the wounds, the loss, is dragged to answer questions, before a judiciary on the soil of those who stood by in silence, as one of the world’s worst tragedies unfolded.

A million lives later; they soothe their guilty consciences still in search of someone to shift blame to. Their solace? Penalise the victim! Meanwhile, harbour and reward the genocide perpetrators on  their  soil - - Ignace Murwanashyaka?

But, Rwandans are not hapless victims for the slaughter, thus, Kabuye, in her resolve has called their bluff choosing to face her tormentors, squarely on their land, in France.

It is testimony, that the people of Rwanda will not be the helpless victims for the legal or moral torment, of those who wish to rewrite the country’s history in an attempt to erase from  memory their complicity in a tragedy, the rest of the world hung its head in shame vowing ‘Never Again’!

Never again for Rwanda, resonates with her heroic 14 year  journey, like the legendary phoenix she rose from the ashes of the post-1994 Genocide, today boasting of a stable thriving economy, steady regional EAC leadership, to being a pace setter in women’s emancipation, with the highest percentage of female legislators in the world.

Boasting one of the cleanest, fast developing capital cities in the world. Shaming her detractors, she stands tall challenging the contradictions in the  international justice system she has fallen prey to.

In this heroic battle, Kabuye will not stand alone, Rwanda will stand with her and so will the rest of the untainted world.
