RCA beat Challengers to qualify for the T20 finals

Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) Development team yesterday qualified for the finals of this year’s T20 Computer Point tournament after beating defending champions, Challengers, at Kicukiro cricket grounds by six wickets.

Rwanda Cricket Association (RCA) Development team yesterday qualified for the finals of this year’s T20 Computer Point tournament after beating defending champions, Challengers, at Kicukiro cricket grounds by six wickets.

RCA –Development team is predominantly composed of young players, most of them below the age of 19.

The youthful side won the toss and opted to field first and Challengers only managed 88 runs.

Ghandi Geoffrey tried his level best to secure a qualification sport for the defending champions but was not "a Trek in the sanctuary” as he put 26 runs in 26 balls while Subhasis Samal only managed 16 runs off 15 balls

RCA’s Ochide Tuyisenge and Eric Niyomugabo were the star players, each taking 3 wickets against the most experienced and decorated cricket team in Rwanda.

In the second inning, RCA –Development team made a good chase and put 91 runs in 15 overs. Prince Imanishaka made 23 runs off 16 balls while Eric Niyomugabo made 20 runs off 21 balls.

"I’m very excited by our performance, eliminating Challengers feels like winning the trophy, they have won it three consecutive times but we have thrown them out”, said John Bosco Tuyizere, RCA –Development team captain.

RCA will now play the finals with whoever wins between Kigali Cricket Club and Telugu Royals.
