Burundian driver Valery Bukera tops the provisional standing by one minute and 28 seconds going into Day 3 of this year’s Rwanda Mountain Gorilla Rally.
Rudy Cantenhede and navigator Slyvia Vinevogel, in a Mitsubishi Evo IV, who was flagged off first, dropped to the second place behind after being penalized by four minute for coming out of the Service Park late.
Zambian driver Muna Singh Jr, who is navigated by his sister Jasmeen Singh, is on the third position after a steady pace on day two. The pair, driving Subaru Impreza N12, entertained fans at different viewpoints.
Jean-Claude Gakwaya is the only local driver in the top ten, laying in sixth place, behind another Burundian, Mohammed Roshanali.
Kenya Don Smith, who leads Muna in the African Rally Championship title race by 29 points, climbed to the 7th position while Hassan Alwi is the best placed Ugandan driver in fourth place.
Fifteen of the 23 cars survived the Day 2 challenge.
Those that have dropped out include; Tassor Gakuba (Sensor), Jonas Kansiime (Gear box), Christopher Kasozi (mechanical), Geogrey Nsam, (mechanical), Janvier Mutuga (broken Steering rack), Genese Semana (Fuel pump), Fred Busuulwa and Musa Kabega (both mechanical).
The final day today, starts at 7:15am from the Golden Tulip Hotel before drivers tackle the final five stages of the fifth round of the African Rally Championship calendar.
