[LETTERS] Stop using the term 'girl child'

It’s time we stopped referring to girls as “girl child”; this is an incredibly offensive, demeaning and sexist term, and it is time The New Times helped the public join the 21st century and educate them in showing proper respect to the more than half of Rwandans who are our mothers, sisters and daughters.

Editor,

RE: "Litclub: Empowering the girl child through literacy” (The New Times, August 11).

It’s time we stopped referring to girls as "girl child”; this is an incredibly offensive, demeaning and sexist term, and it is time The New Times helped the public join the 21st century and educate them in showing proper respect to the more than half of Rwandans who are our mothers, sisters and daughters.

What would happen if we start calling boys as "boy child”? Wouldn’t that be offensive and disparaging?
