Are you a last minute shopper? Well, you have one extra day to go shopping at the ongoing Rwanda International Trade Fair at the Gikondo Show Grounds, thanks to extension of the closing day from today to Thursday, August 11.

Gerald Mukubu, the deputy chief executive officer and the in charge of advocacy, the Private Sector Federation (PSF), said they pushed the closing date to August 11 due to demand from the public and exhibitors for more time.

Mukubu said the trade fair has so far attracted an estimated 220,000 showgoers, but the figure is expected to reach about 300,000 in the next two days.

"This encouraged exhibitors to request for additional time, but we could only extend the fair for one more day,” he said in a telephone interview with The New Times yesterday.

He said the development will shape future planning for the annual event, noting that "this will lead to the increasing of the number of days for the next trade fair.”

It was organised by PSF and the Ministry of Trade and Industry, and focused on promotion of locally-made goods under the Made-in-Rwanda tag name. The trade fair attracted 419 local and foreign exhibitors from 17 countries, an increase from 408 companies last year. Of these 271 are local exhibitors, while foreign exhibitors are 148.
