The 10th edition of the East African Military Games will get underway today at Amahoro national stadium in Kigali under the theme ‘One people, one destiny through EAC military games and culture event, 2016.’

While addressing a press conference on Saturday at Amahoro stadium, the Chief of Defense staff of Rwanda Defense Forces (RDF), Gen. Patrick Nyamvumba said it was a great honour for Rwanda and RDF to host the EAC military games and cultural events. 

He added that the objective of the EAC Military sports games is to contribute in building confidence among the EAC forces.

"Cooperation has already brought good results not only in sports, but also in regional security where such cooperation has helped in building peace,” Gen. Nyamvumba said.

The 10-day event has attracted over 500 participants representing military forces of the EAC partner states.

Out of five, four partner states including, hosts Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda will take part in this year’s 10th edition of the games. Burundi will not take part in this year’s Games, because, according to officials, they didn’t have enough time to prepare their teams.

The four states will compete in four sports disciplines namely: football, handball, netball and basketball.

Last year in Kampala, Uganda, RDF were crowned champions in football, basketball and handball.
