Former Sunrise FC coach Sosthene Habimana has been appointed the head coach for national football league rivals Musanze FC on a two-year contract.

Sosthene Habimana.

The former Rayon Sports assistant coach guided Sunrise to 8th place last season, and he replaces Ugandan George Semwogere, who left the club at the end of the season after surviving relegation on the final day with only 25 points in 30 games, four points ahead relegated Rwamagana City FC.

"Yes, it’s true I am now the head coach of Musanze FC, I signed the contract on Thursday and we shall start pre-season training on Monday next week,” said Habimana told Sunday Sport when asked for a confirmation of his appointment.

The former Rwanda international defender, who won the CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in 1999 with Rwanda B, has been tasked to revamp the club and make Musanze FC a permanent fixture in the topflight division.

"For the past two seasons, the club has been on the edge of relegation and making the club a regular club and finishing better positions are the key tasks in his contract, which we hope he will be able to achieve,” said a club official, who did not want to be named.

Habimana insists that the club requires a significant overhaul to build a strong winning squad. The club has so far released 16 players.
