Rwanda Cycling Federation (FERWACY) has postponed the Northern Circuit Cycling competition to the weekend of August 13 due to absence of key riders.

Northern Circuit race which is the sixth on the annual Rwanda Cycling Cup calendar covers a total distance of 65.4km from Rubavu- Musanze plus a circuit.

FERWACY president Aimable Bayingana has confirmed that the event, which initially had been scheduled for this weekend, has been pushed forward by another week.

"It would not make any sense to have the competition with some of the riders missing,” Bayingana explained, adding that, "Some of the cyclists are still in UK so this is the reason why we have agreed with the sponsors to postpone the race.”

The key riders missing include; The U23 quartet in UK: Jean Bosco Nsengimana, Jean Claude Uwizeye, Samuel Mugisha and Joseph Areruya. The team is expected back in Kigali on Sunday.

Last weekend, Janvier Hadi from Benediction club claimed his second Race for Culture victory ahead of Gasore Hategeka in the 145 km event.

Four events are left on the calendar, the Muhanzi Challenge (Rwamagana-Muhanga) on August 20 and the Central Challenge dubbed -Tour de Kigali from Bugesera to Kigali, while the last two races will include; Kivu Belt (Karongi-Rusizi) and Nyungwe Challenge (Rusizi-Huye).

Riders will garner points from each race and after the all races there will be an overall national champion. The races are aimed at preparing Team Rwanda riders for international competitions, including Tour du Rwanda, which is held in November.
