COMEDIAN HÉRVE KIMENYI is set to thrill fans with a one-hour performance in a new comedy show named ‘Bitu Biko: Seriously Funny,’ scheduled to take place at L’Espace on October 1.

The show, organised by Comedy Knights, will also be blessed by renowned comedians John Naifa Muyenzi, commonly known as Babou, Michael Sengazi and Prince.

Speaking to The New Times, Kimenyi said, "I missed the stage and I am eager to be back. The show will be a heart to heart conversation about the crazy times we live in; from social media to pandemics, from the so-called freedom of speech and the 'cancel culture', and many more topics that are seriously funny...but still serious."

Babou, CEO of Comedy Knights said that the show is a new concept from them and they are set to table fresh content and performances by artists of the hour.

He said the main event will be in French, but will also see English and Kinyarwanda being used by the performers.

Explaining why they came up with the show, Michael Sengazi said they want to have Rwandan comedians create content that is appropriate, targeting both local and international scenes.

"We’ve had many invitations from Chicago, New York and different countries around the world. We want local comedians to also be able to have comedy that is up to standards, and have that happen on a monthly basis so that they can come out and try-out their things,” he said.

"Also, it will help when we host shows here, let’s say "Caravan du Lire” which is happening in December, the first one that will take place in three countries. We will be having content that is ready not only for the local scene but also abroad."

Sengazi also noted that they want to give platform to younger comedians and expose them to a different type of crowd; Francophone and Anglophone, adding that they’ve had many young comedians based in Gisenyi and other spots around the world that they want to try-out in front of an audience that knows what to expect.

He added: "Comedians from around the world have specials; like one-hour special, 45-minute special and we want Rwandans to also have that standard so that they can travel to perform in many other countries.”

The tickets for the ‘Bitu Biko: Seriously Funny’ show are currently being sold at Rwf10, 000 through Bafana platform. Spaces are limited.
