GICUMBI — The Gicumbi district Director of Health Services, Thadee Kibamba,  has warned area residents against producing children out of marriage, as they will lack the necessary support and care other children receive.

Kibamba, said children produced outside marriage are vulnerable, lack the protection and have their rights violated.

He was speaking at a seminar on ‘Human Rights, the Family Law and Matrimonial Laws’, in Gicumbi district last week.

The seminar was organised by the Ministry of Gender and Family Promotion in collaboration with the National Women Council (NWC), which was held at the Byumba Anglican Church hall.

It attracted all Sector Civil status officers from the Gicumbi district, Police and Local Defence personnel, religious leaders and the in charge of legal Affairs.

On behalf of the Mayor, Bonane Nyangezi, Kibamba, spoke against irresponsible births.

"The seminar is intended to reduce irresponsible child births because they have negative effects on the Rwandan society and the country’s economy,” said Kibamba.

It was meant to sensitise families on the importance of protecting children’s rights and to discourage the habit of producing children outside the wedlock.

There were different speakers at the seminar: a consultant in legal affairs at HAGURUKA, Hilarie Mukamazimpaka and the in- charge of training at the National Women Council, Margarite Marie Uwamahoro were among them.
