Rwandan international midfielder Andrew Buteera has said he is delighted after signing a two-year contract extension with the reigning national football league champions APR FC until end of the 2017-18 season.

The 22-year-old was influential in second half of the just concluded season, leading the military side to a record-extending 16th league title and the finals of Peace Cup, which they lost 1-0 against archrivals, Rayon Sports.

Buteera, who started just a handful of games under Emmanuel Robuna, before Khanfil took over in early March, confirmed to Times Sport that, "Everything has been sorted out with APR; I have signed a new contract of two years.”

"I wanted to play and that’s what I asked and I told my bosses what I want. It is not about money or anything else, for me it’s purely about playing regularly. I am happy that I am playing and I will continue to work hard,” Buteera said.

It is reported that Buteera, who has received Rwf3m as sign-on fee, will earn a monthly salary of Rwf500, 000 in addition to other bonuses.

He noted: "I am super excited about staying at a competitive football club and I cannot wait to get onto the pitch again and help my club to go to the next level. The most important aspect is that I have people who support me and are there for me.”

Buteera joined APR in 2012 as an 18-year- old, who was part of Rwanda’s U-17 that took part in the FIFA World Cup held in Mexico in 2011. He started his career with Uganda’s Proline FC.

APR have also signed five new players including; Innocent Habyarimana, Imran Nshimiyimana and Emery Mvuyekure from Police FC as well as Marines FC duo of Aimable Nsabimana and striker Blaise Itangishaka.

The club is recruiting ahead of the 2016/17 season in which they will not only be seeking to defend the league title but also to win back both the Peace Cup and CECAFA Kagame Cup, in addition to competing in the CAF Champions League.
