After signing last season’s league joint top scorer Muhadjiri Hakizimana, AS Kigali has signed three more new players as the club continue to overhaul the squad ahead of the 2016/17 season.

Among the new signings is former APR attacking midfielder Kabange Twite, Ugandan striker Karim Ndugwa and midfielder Alex Nkomeje from Sunrise FC.

According to AS Kigali team manager, Joseph Nshimiye, the trio has each signed a two-year contact.

DR Congo-born Kabange, who left APR in 2012 after five seasons, joins from Congolese side, St Eloi Lupopo where he has been the club captain.

"The coach says he wants at least seven good new signings to strengthen the team if we are to challenge for trophies next season, we have so far signed four,” Nshimiye told Sunday Sport.

Ugandan forward Ndugwa joins from SC Villa and has been brought to fill the gap left by Rwanda international Ernest Sugira, who joined DR Congo’s AS Vita Club.

AS Kigali have lost two of their key players recently, including star striker Sugira and team captain Jean Pierre Akili Mabula, who joined Australia semi-professional side, Sydney Olympic FC.

AS Kigali, Peace Cup winners in 2013 have emerged as serious title contenders in the past three years but have on all occasions failed to win the title.

Last season, Eric Nshimiyimana’s team finished in fourth place with 56 points, 11 behind the champions APR FC.
