Race for promotion to top-flight league hots up

The race for the two places reserved for teams from the second tier football league has come down to eight clubs following Wednesday’s final group matches which saw 15 teams eliminated.

The race for the two places reserved for teams from the second tier football league has come down to eight clubs following Wednesday’s final group matches which saw 15 teams eliminated.

Matches in the round of eight will be played on Sunday with teams vying for places in the semi-finals as they seek promotion to the topflight league.After the final group matches on Wednesday, four top teams from each group (A and B) reached the quarter-final stage.They include Group A leaders Vision FC (41 points), Vision Jeuness Nouvelle, United Stars and Sorwathe FC, who were tied on 38 points but separated by goals scored.

From Group B, Pepiniere FC (leaders with 48 points), Etoile de l’Est (47 points); Interforce FC (44 points) and Kirehe FC (44 points) all qualified for the last eight.Quarter-final fixtures will be played over two legs, with Vision FC facing Kirehe FC while Pepiniere will lock horns with Sorwathe FC.

Vision JN will battle it out with Interforce FC, while Etoile de L’est will play against United Stars. The winners will proceed to the semi-final stage.

Both finalists will get promoted to the country’s topflight football league.
