RRA look to defend KAVC memorial tournament crown

National Women volleyball league champions Rwanda Revenue Authority will take part in the 20th edition of the Kampala Amateur Volleyball (KAVC) Founders’ Memorial International Tournament –scheduled for August 6-7 at Lugogo Indoor Stadium in Kampala, Uganda – seeking to successfully defend their title.

RRA head coach Jean De Dieu Masumbuko said the tournament will also offer the badly needed exposure to his players.

"The tournament will boost the playing level of the team, such big tournaments are good for us,” said Masumbuko.

Ugandan teams expected to take part in two-day event include; SPORT-S, Sky VC, Old Kampala, KAVC A, KAVC B (Men) as well as KCCA, SPORT-S, Ndejje University, Nkumba University, KAVC A, KAVC B and Vision VC (Women).

The other regional teams expected include DR Congo’s Espoir VC (men) and Volleyball Force Terrestre (women); Kenya’s University of Nairobi, Cooperative Bank, Administration Police and GSU (in men’s category), and Pipeline, KCB, and Prisons in the women’s fray.

Others are Cobra Volleyball Club (men), National Police Service (women) from South Sudan; while Tanzania’s Magereza VC (women) as well as Jeshi Stars and Magereza for men will also take part. Burundi will be represented by Rukizo VC and Muziga VC in the men and women categories, respectively.

University of Kibungo (men) and Rwanda Revenue Authority (women) overcame Ugandan opponents to win the 2015 edition.
