Rwamagana City head coach Francois Kalisa is optimistic that his relegated side will succeed at their first time of asking when they bid for a return to the top flight division next season.

The Rwamagana-based side was relegated to the second tier following a dismal run of results throughout the season that saw them occupy the second from bottom place most of the time.

But Kalisa insists the team achieved so much in the country’s top league.

"We may have been unable to pick up good results in the course of the season but our overall performance improved every other game, especially in the second round of the season. The players put up a good fight throughout although it wasn’t enough to save us from relegation,” he said.

The former SC Kiyovu assistant coach said his players managed to get "massive” experience from playing in the topflight division.

"We are the work of building a strong team that can compete on the high level once again next season. We have hopes for a quick return. We were not consistent enough last season and that’s one of the main areas we will now work on going forward,” he added.

On Sunday, Rwamagana were relegated alongside AS Muhanga, whose relegation had been sealed way earlier.
