IT was glamour and excitement on Sunday evening as the University of Tourism, Technology and Business Studies (UTB), held the pre-selection for the Miss and Mr UTB 2016 beauty pageant, at Hill Top Hotel in Remera, Kigali.

The annual pageant attracts competitors from both UTB Kigali and Gisenyi campuses to showcase the beauty, brains and confidence of young Rwandans. The event, in its third edition now, will see 20 female and male contestants, out of 32 from both campuses, vying for the university’s prestigious title on August 8, at Lemigo hotel in Kigali.

The pageant is organised by Mind Africa group. Judges during pre-selections looked at personality, elegance, beauty, brains and talent.

The current titleholders are Elizabeth Ibyishaka (Miss UTB) and Raoul Mugwaneza (Mr UTB).

"The purpose for this event is to showcase Rwanda’s beauty. We want to provoke curiosities among the Rwandan youth to use their beauty to generate income,” said Jordan Mukubu, the Mind Africa group and the organizer of the show.

The show started at 7p.m and included performances from local artistes Social Mula, Oda Paccy, Davy, Lionel and Mandela.

Callixte Kabera, the vice-Chancellor of UTB, said: "The youth should feel that they have the power to impact their community, that’s why we requested each contestant to design and present projects that can benefit society. I call upon all the youth to be agents of change wherever they are.”
