Local designers impress at '1000 Hills' fashion show

IT was glitz and glamour on Thursday night as local and international fashion lovers turned up for 1000 Hills Kigali Fashion show held at Umubano hotel in Kacyiru .

IT was glitz and glamour on Thursday night as local and international fashion lovers turned up for 1000 Hills Kigali Fashion show held at Umubano hotel in Kacyiru . 

The runway show featured the latest collections from local fashion houses like Uzuri K&Y, Rupari designs, Monshions, Inkanda house, Dokmai Rwanda, Glo collections, Kolbe and Rwanda Clothing, among others. Over 30 models showcased different designs at the event organised by the Private Sector Federation (PSF).

The event showcased immense talent, with local designers displaying fashion items made from local fabrics and textile. It also demonstrated to the guests attending the AU summit what Rwanda has to offer to the continent and the world in terms of fashion.

"This fashion show aimed at encouraging Rwandans and other people to appreciate and buy locally made products. It was also a chance to show delegates attending the African Union Summit that Rwanda’s fashion industry has grown and can compete on the international market,” said Yosam Kiiza, the Private Sector Federation finance director.

The glamorous outdoor show was held at the hotel’s parking lot—the spot that provided a beautiful atmosphere to the guests as they enjoyed the runway show. It started at 6pm with performances from the city's most well-known jazz outfits, the Neptunez, and Tusker Project Fame winner Hope Irakoze. 

Musician Hope Irakoze, the winner of Tusker Project Fame season six was one of the artistes who entertained guests at the show.

Guests were able to buy locally made fashion items at the venue of the show, which ended at 11pm.

Guests were also encouraged to visit the shop at Kigali Convention Centre, where several locally made garments and merchandise are on sale.
