Editor,

RE: "Kagame launches Kigali Convention Centre” (The New Times, July 8).

A truly important milestone on the road Rwanda has embarked on to turn itself into a meetings, incentives, conferences and events (MICE) hub! The achievement is the more satisfying given the many stumbles encountered in bringing this project to completion.

I was trying to gather some facts about the new building in town only to learn that KCC is not only the most expensive project of its kind in the history of Rwanda but also among the most expensive projects across the continent.

This is proof of a government that works in the interest of its people, and that every single cent spent was spent to achieve this goal. Elsewhere, such a project could be an accomplished goal with big scandals of corruption the project could be a leakage channel of public fund misuse. Such habits have no place in Rwanda.

The completion of Kigali Convention Centre should motivate our government to even do more and better. Let’s hope that, soon, we shall see the Bugesera International Airport construction works start and Gahanga Stadium as well.

We don’t seek perfection, but with time, peace and security, what can’t we achieve?
