[LETTERS] Happy 22nd Liberation Anniversary to all Rwandans

Happy Liberation Day, fellow Rwandans! It was a very long and tiresome journey, a journey where for an important outing, our fathers had to borrow trousers, a journey where our beloved ones were buried like dead animals in the jungles of foreign lands, a journey where our children knew no any relatives apart from parents.

RE: "Rwandans have their say on outcomes of liberation" (The New Times, July 4).

It was a journey where Rwandans both within and out of the country were harassed in many ways because they had no place to call home.

A journey where we worked hard and paid taxes in countries that did not accept us, a journey where we saw the strength of women who taught their children the values and culture of their beloved country, they made sure that that spirit of Rwandans stayed alive.

A journey where our brothers and sisters sacrificed their youth years to liberate the land we call home today.

Rwanda today is a home of all Rwandans regardless of their background, history or any form of discrimination which had been institutionalized, which culminated into the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi that killed over a million of our people.

Today’s Rwanda is a country that embraces its entire people and a hub of all beautiful species. May God continue to bless President Paul Kagame who not only steered the journey of deliverance but continues to lead the country and people of Rwanda towards prosperity.

Yulian
