The turn-up was not as impressive as it had been anticipated but that did not stop Ugandan star Sheebah Karungi from entertaining those that showed up for the Summer Beach Festival in Rubavu on Saturday night.

The Ugandan dancehall singer arrived on stage at 2:30a.m, when many people had already given up and left with only hard-core partygoers hanging on.

And, there was a brief standoff as organisers prevented journalists from covering the event when it became evident that the attendance was not impressive, with organisers accusing journalists of refusing to give the event prior publicity yet they wanted free tickets.

It was the 4th edition of the annual ‘We Are One Summer Beach Fest’ organised by DJ Africano. Sheebah was the main act supported by local artistes, including Active and Social Mula.

And the self-proclaimed Ugandan Queen of Dancehall did not disappoint the people who turned up at Kivu Serena Hotel by the shores of Lake Kivu.

When she started her performance with her popular song ‘Ice Cream’, it seemed familiar to many who sang along and danced. The diva spent over 30 minutes on stage even though she appeared somewhat unimpressed by the turn-up.

She performed most of her popular songs, including Nkwatako, Mudongo, which she features her now nemesis Pallaso, Ndiwanjawulo, Twesana, Wantama, and Otubatisa that features compatriot Irene Ntale, to name a few.

Although the show didn’t start on time as was scheduled, those who managed to wait were treated to mesmerizing performances but there were murmurs of poor organisation.

The show ended at around 3:20a.m but and left behind mixed feelings as some revellers thought it did not meet expectations while journalists complained about being mistreated.

DJ Africano was not readily available for comment.
