Chez Lando Hotel has resumed services which were interrupted on Saturday morning after fire broke out from the conference room.

According to Anne-Marie Kantengwa, CEO of Chez Lando, the fire may have been caused by ongoing works at the hotel.

"At around 11:00 when technicians were conducting some activities, we noticed flames on the floor of the conference hall,” Kantengwa said.

"We alerted the Police who joined efforts to put out the fire. Fortunately no one died or got injured.”

"Before police firefighters arrived, the staff used extinguishers to contain the fire as property was moved out of the conference hall,” Kantengwa added.

Some property and part of the conference was destroyed, but the CEO is confident that damage to the conference hall and one of the restaurants will be repaired without interrupting regular services of the hotel.

"I thank the police for their intervention to put out the fire,” Kantengwa said, adding that she will work with her insurance company to assess the loss and compensation.

Supt. Emmanuel Hitayezu, Police spokesperson for the city of Kigali said the investigations into the cause of the fire was ongoing.
