Uwizeyimana attributes win to team effort

Team Dimension Data cyclist, Bonaventure Uwizeyimana has attributed his win in the Road Race of the National Cycling Championship to the support he got from his former club, Benediction Club riders.

The 23-year-old won the 111. 3km race that started in Muhanga and ended in Huye, using 2hours, 52 minutes and 17 seconds. He beat the strong Team Rwanda riders including the 2014 reigning Tour du Rwanda champion, Valens Ndayisenga, Adrien Niyonshuti, Joseph Biziyaremye and Abraham Ruhumuriza.

Uwizeyimana acknowledged that his teammates, including Hadi Janvier, Gasore Hategeka and Nathan Byukusenge played a vital role in his win of the one-day event.

"My win was a result of team work, we organized ourselves to win the event and I am happy we did. We needed this victory and I am looking forward to win more stages,” he noted.

Riders will accumulate points from each race and at the end of the season, the rider with the highest number of points will be overall national champion. 

Winners of each of the ten races will receive Rwf100, 000 while the winner of the U23 category will get Rwf60,000. The overall winning team at the end of the season will get Rwf500, 000.
