RE: "Rwf8bn MasterCard Foundation deal to boost engineering skills" (The New Times, June 21).

The author of the article is spot on highlighting what Carnegie Mellon University and The MasterCard Foundation have done. Good leadership does bring in partners like CMU who have made a tremendous contribution to the skills development in Rwanda and East Africa as a whole.

It is simple economics, patriotic leaders, who are not corrupt, will get our countries where they need to be.

The Rwandan government has done a lot for the layman and proved through its actions that Africans do not need aid handouts. We can reshape and manage our destiny to becoming productive active global citizens.
