Today, residents of Kigali will be treated to an all-day entertainment event at Impact Hub Kigali, in Kiyovu as part of the campaign to promote the creative industry.

The one-day event will include several activities but the highlight will be a music workshop under the theme: ‘Digitisation and Monetization of Rwandan Music Workshop.

The event will attract the ‘who is who’ in the art and music industry. Impact Hub Kigali are the organizers of the workshop which will also showcase different curators of the creative community in Kigali.

According to Eric Karengera Kirenga aka Eric Soul, one of the organisers, the workshop is one of the most interesting sessions since it will attract different stakeholders in the music industry to discuss the future of the Rwandan music.

"The event itself is bigger than ever but this session is more important. We are going to be talking about the future of the local music and how we can harness our industry. Digitisation is part of achieving this. Various stakeholders have been invited on board and we hope it’ll be a fruitful session,” he noted.

Kirenga said 25 local artistes will sign with AFRICORI to digitise their music at the event. AFRICORI is one of the leading companies in the digitisation of music.

Local DJs Eric Soul, Coxy and Gil Low will be among the performers at the free event, which offers attendees the chance to observe and create art, while enjoying an abundance of entertainment.

"Although our music doesn’t have that much visibility, our business environment has the ability to take it to another level. This is why AFRICORI has expressed interests in helping our artistes,” said Eric Soul.

The programme on the digitisation and monetisation of Rwandan music targets musicians, government officials, private sector leaders, law professionals and other music industry stakeholders.

"Together we can be the engine that propels Rwandan music to its rightful place in the world,” he added.

The event starts at 7.30a.m till the evening. The entertainment lineup includes, Arts Umuganda, a discussion panel on digital music, theater, fashion, a film screening of Ejo Heza – a documentary on hip hop and break dancing in Rwanda, and live music from Abdul Makanyaga, Moutcho, and Makumbi sound.
